Iowa is hard on paint — road salt from November to March, ag dust and overspray in the summer, hard water spots year round. There are two ways to deal with it: a quick two-step wash to get the car clean, or a full decontamination that pulls the embedded contamination out of the clear coat and puts protection back on.
The process
The car gets a touchless pre-wash first so grit comes off before a mitt ever touches the paint. That's how you avoid putting swirls in.
Separate rinse bucket with a grit guard. Wheels and tires get their own tools, never the paint mitt.
Iron remover dissolves embedded brake dust and rail dust — the orange bleeding you see is the contamination leaving the clear coat.
Mechanical decon for anything the chemicals didn't lift. After this the paint is smooth to the back of your hand.
A sealant or wax goes on last. Expect a few months of beading and easier washes — this is protection, not correction.
